The still life format appeals to me for many reasons. At first glance, it is accessible, calming and interesting. It is a good framework to showcase my realistic style as well.

Still lifes also allow me to explore and re-contexualize objects. Creating a story with items is the true pleasure of these works of art. And like a true Vanitas, I love to balance the composition with reminders that life is ephemeral. The objects we use can give hints about the life that used and loved them.
